Our Social Portfolio
Supporting social enterprises
Social enterprises are an increasingly important segment of the global economy linking economic development to broader social values – people, planet, profits. We believe that ClearWorld Energy is a successful example of this triple bottom line approach and we are providing initial start-up support to other such social enterprises. We believe this is one way we can help create a lasting and sustainable improvement to the world.
- Fairklima Capital – social entrepreneur which focuses on sustainable finance, infrastructure and strategic social responsibility.
Raising Awareness on Climate Change & Sustainability
Climate change and sustainability are complex and long-term generational issues. It is important that all stakeholders have a good grasp of the issues involved so they can develop their own ways to rise to the challenge. ClearWorld Energy has supported a number of initiatives to reach out to various stakeholders on these issues including policymakers, students and rural communities:
Climate Change and Renewable Energy Initiatives
- Green Long March – Raising awareness of sustainable energy in North East China
- Global Issues Network - Climate Change Workshop, Western Academy of Beijing, 2008
- The Carbon Challenge - International School of Beijing – GIN Conference Workshop – March 2009
- The Microcarbon Foundation – leveraging carbon markets to provide clean, reliable, affordable energy to the poor
- WAB Wild goes renewable – CWE supports WAB student centre with PV system
- ClearWorld Energy also offsets its carbon footprint and supports community carbon projects in this way.

Strategy for Our Social Portfolio
The founders and all the staff at ClearWorld Energy share a common belief that sustainable energy resources can improve people’s lives:
- directly through the provision of clean energy in rural and urban areas
- indirectly by reducing the amount of air pollution from the burning of fossil fuels, which is a huge problem in China
- globally by lessening the drivers of climate change through reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In every case ClearWorld Energy considers sustainable development and climate change benefits before proceeding with a project. Further, we believe that all corporations and individuals share a common duty to find responsible ways to produce and consume energy. In particular we want to draw attention to the inequality that exists between energy service provision in cities and in rural areas.
The founders and all the staff at ClearWorld Energy also share a common belief that helping the most vulnerable members of society – for example the rural poor, the urban poor and orphans – is an important way to ensure that corporations can accelerate the drive to a more equitable and caring society.
We have therefore decided to allocate a portion of our company’s profit into 3 program areas:
- to fund social enterprises that will substantially increase the uptake of sustainable energy and/or reduce poverty
- to support initiatives that raise awareness on climate change & sustainability
- to support charities that directly improve the lives of vulnerable members of society in China.
In addition Clearworld Energy supports via sponsorship other organisations and events which share similar goals to alleviate poverty and improve sustainability.
