About Clearworld Energy
ClearWorld Energy was formed in 2003 by experienced energy sector business professionals and aims to become the premier clean energy business operating in China. This period has seen unprecedented growth in the clean energy sector as China’s government – and the world at large – becomes increasingly concerned about the impact of sustained high growth in China’s energy consumption as well as the threat of global warming. During these same years, Clearworld Energy has grown from a start-up to be a stable business and will continue to contribute to the solution of the world’s most pressing environmental issue.
Our mission is to deliver clean energy for China, applying leading technologies and innovative commercial solutions.
Clearworld Energy remains an independent company managed by its founding shareholders who have proven track-records of success in China’s energy sector. Located in Beijing, our teams are seasoned, experienced and well supported by industry specialists. Our international network of partners comprises many of the world’s leading clean energy companies and multi-lateral agencies. We have extensive contacts with the relevant departments of China’s government and the Chinese clean energy industry.
Starting with consulting, carbon (CDM) and project finance businesses all under one roof, Clearworld Energy has co-founded three new companies – each one focused on a specific service with its own business model – but all working together co-operatively to provide fully integrated solutions for our clients and partners.
Clearworld Energy Ventures finances clean energy projects, companies and technologies – and provides clean energy fund management for China and Asia
Camco International works with companies to develop projects which reduce green-house gas (GHG) emissions under Kyoto (CDM) and Non-Kyoto (VER) schemes – managing the entire process to the delivery and sale of carbon credits in the international markets
ESD Sinosphere provides world leading environmental, social and carbon management consulting services for the China market
Our Clean Energy Businesses
Financing Clean Energy Projects, Companies and Technologies – Clean Energy Fund Management
We develop and finance our own clean energy projects and we provide financing for other developers. In 2005, ClearWorld Energy arranged foreign investment for a 50MW wind farm and in 2006 for a 70MW hydro-electricity project. In 2006, we incorporated Clearworld Energy Ventures to fund the development of promising, relevant clean energy technologies and companies, to finance a program of investments based on those technologies and to raise and manage new investment funds targeted for clean energy in China.
Clearworld Energy Ventures is currently funding projects in the areas of bio-mass gasification, bio-fuels production, coal mine methane utilization and carbon sequestration.
Led by our co-investor, Kent Carter, the management team of Clearworld Energy Ventures has un-matched experience of investing in energy assets in China and has successfully placed over USD 300 million into co-generation and waste-to-energy projects since 1999.
Developing projects which reduce green-house gas (GHG) emissions under Kyoto (CDM) and Non-Kyoto (VER) schemes
We were one of the first to support Chinese companies to qualify their clean energy projects for carbon finance under the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol (CDM). Having worked on China’s first CDM project, the Hui Teng Xi Le wind farm in Inner Mongolia, Clearworld Energy founder, Dr Alex Westlake, authored AM0024 (cement plant waste heat to power) and co-authored AM008 (Coal Mine Methane and Coal Bed Methane). Based on this experience, by the end of 2005, Clearworld Energy had secured contracts to develop 25 million carbon credits. In early 2006, we co-founded Camco International, to take over and develop the carbon credit origination business on a global scale. Camco International is now listed on the London Stock Exchange (CAO-L) and has over 100 million carbon credits under management.
Camco International works with companies to develop projects which reduce green-house gas (GHG) emissions under Kyoto (CDM) and Non-Kyoto (VER) schemes – managing the entire process to the delivery and sale of carbon credits in the international markets
Camco Carbon Assets Consulting Beijing Limited was incorporated in late 2006. With a staff strength of 30 it is the largest carbon finance team in China and offers a full CDM service to sellers of carbon credits from clean energy projects in China.

World Leading Environmental, Social and Carbon Management Consulting Services
Since our founding we have provided market entry and management services to several of the world’s leading clean energy companies. These include GreenOneTec (world’s largest manufacturer of flat-plate solar thermal collectors); Hydro-Tasmania (at the time, Australia’s largest renewable energy investor); D1 Oils (UK listed bio-fuels producer); Climate Change Capital (largest private sector carbon credit buyer). In late 2006 Clearworld Energy and Energy for Sustainable Development (ESD), the UK’s leading carbon management consulting company agreed to co-invest to establish a carbon management consulting business in China.
In early 2007, Clearworld Energy and ESD jointly acquired the business of Sinosphere Limited, already a leading environmental and CSR consulting company in the China market and will complement the Sinosphere capabilities with the ESD service offering in carbon management, policy development and application of renewable energy in the built environment.
